For our production we will be making our own company logo. I will be using a piece of software called Macormedia Flash 8 to make a simple animation for our company logo.
Our logo will be a stickman falling through the air before eventually landing on a sign saying "Gavin & Kenneth Productions", which will be the name of our production company. The "Gavin & Kenneth Productions" sign will be big and bold to stand out a make the name memorable. The stickman will be ordinarily black on a sky blue background with clouds going from bottom to top, to show how the character is falling.

Differences from planning/storyboard
Due to either problems or change in ideas, our final production differed highly from our plan.
First of all we were unable to record the guitar scene and the credits part as we unable to get the guitar at the film location. We replaced this with static pictures for the credits. We used these pictures as a quick introduction to the characters.
Another significant part missing is the conversation between the 3 main characters. All though we still wished to include this, after filming all of the parts we were unable to make the footage flow, and as a result decided to remove this from the opening. As this was a large proportion of our opening we decided to extend our scenes of the characters waking up. We felt this was actually more suitable to the opening as it helped us create more suspense after the reaction to the letter. It also allowed us to introduce our characters more before the storyline begins.
Throughout the extract we also added extra shots to our storyboard, although not changing the storyline much, it allowed added fluency and pace to our extract, creating a more interesting and suspenseful opening. We feel these changes have improved our opening from our planning and although there are parts we would like to have included and improved, we are still happy that the changes have in general improved our final production.

Evaluation

During the production of our opening scene, we have improved immensely from our preliminary piece. First of all we vastly improved our film techniques. When required we held a steady hand to allow easier zoom shots or panning shots. We also increased our use of the tripod to guarantee steady, high quality filming.
We aided our improved film techniques with improved research. First of all we were more careful about our mise-en-scene, making sure the setting was exactly how it was wanted. We also worked this better using our knowledge of lighting effects and techniques. This allowed us to create the right effect and style for the scene to help represent the time of the day or cleanliness. During the bedroom scene we managed to make the lighting dark, whilst still obvious it was bright outdoors, to show how the character is sleeping at midday.
We were helped a lot through our audience research. As we discovered what our audience liked about other films in this genre and how they would like our film to be. We reached out to our audience by adding humourous moments as well as realistic characters.
Another way we improved from our preliminary piece is our editing. Firstly, we included transitions in our production, mainly as fades our slides. In our preliminary piece we had no transitions and used ordinary cuts for every shot. Using fades allowed us to improved flow and help cover up any mistakes we may have made. Secondly, we were able to include text in our piece. We were able to add text to input our credits as well as the title of our film over the top of frames and footage. We also learned how to add music as sound effects to our piece adding music to go over our pictures to make our credits a little more entertaining and less boring. With the combination of text and sound effects, we were able to create our production label, helping the film to seem more professional. Another editing effect we found useful was the ability to change the pace of a shot. We increased early shots in our piece such as the paper boy delivering the letter or the character going down the stairs by about 10% to marginally increase the speed of our opening. If we knew how to do this during the preliminary project, we feel it would be a significantly better piece. To make our shots look more professional, we were able to adjust the colour balance and add effects to a shot. Although we didn't add any effects to a shot, we did adjust the balance of a few shots, with some of the shots needing more colour in them to help contrast the colours. In some shots, the colours were darkened slightly, just to make sure they had the right "morning" effect to look how we wanted. Finally, an important function we discovered in imovie was the freezeframe ability. This allowed us to have a couple of extra pictures for our credits that without, we might not have created the right flow towards the end of our opening.
